Introduction to Timeline
This is a new, experimental, feature. The aim is to show how artists' lives overlapped. Of course, it only shows the date of birth and death of the artist - there is no indication of the period over which any particular artist was active.
If you click on an artist's name, you will see links to other sites in which more information may be found; there is also a self-portrait of the artist.
One of the selection criteria for this first attempt was that a self-portrait of the artist could be found.
Read the guide for help on viewing the timeline.

TIMELINE GUIDANCE

change button. You can fine-tune the start and end years by using the decade buttons - there is no need to click on the
change button for these.
Click on a surname to see the information in the database about that person. For this demonstration, the database contains links to other sites where more information about that artist may be found, and a self portrait of the artist
The order in which the artists are displayed can be changed - the options are surname, year of birth, year of death, nationality.
Nationalities are shown using a 2-letter code; in most cases this is the international internet country code, although some codes have been invented for the purposes of this example. The nationality shown is based on present-day country boundaries. Hover the mouse over the letter for a translation.
